Great Strides

Great Strides is this weekend! Please come and join us to make CF stand for cure found. We are so close to a cure. I can feel it! With all the new drugs coming out they've got to be so close. If they haven't already found it! It is a good reason to get up early on Saturday and it is always a blast! You also get in some exercise! ;)

Great Strides 2011 (Day 20 and 21)

Great Strides 2011: A success!! =)

Today was a great and tiring day! It was so much fun to get together with friends and family and do something good for such a wonderful cause. I wish Adam could have been there but we Skyped with him for a minute so he could say hi to everyone. We walked around SLC this morning and we lucked out with beautiful weather!

I want to thank all of my wonderful family and friends that came and walked with me! It meant a lot to me! I also want to thank my family for all the work they did on the shirts! They came out great! =) I can't wait for next year and hopefully there will be some more advances in CF research by then!

Here are some pictures:

Great Strides is less than a month away!!

I want to make CF stand for Cure Found. This year's Great Strides is from my husband, Brian, Rex, Tiffany, Kendall and all my other friends that have passed away. I can't stand to see this happen anymore! Please help us and join our team or donate! All donations go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation even if it is a dollar.

Day 19/ Great Strides

A picture and a letter

I have no idea what this means. Haha.

So I probably won't do this one. Sorry to disappoint all of my fans. ;)

But there is something I want to talk about again since it is getting closer.

And what I am talking about is Great Strides.

Great Strides is a national fundraising walk for Cystic Fibrosis. For those of you that don't know what cystic fibrosis is, it is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:

  • clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
  • obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food
This is the definition I found on cff.org.

I am trying to put together a team to raise awareness and money to help find a cure. My husband is effected by this disease and I so badly want to find him a cure so he doesn't have to go through what he has to go through everyday. So I hope that my friends and family will join our team and help us hopefully find a cure for him, my friends and thousands of others that have this disease.

If you want to help, there are many options. You can sign up and walk with us in Salt Lake. (The walks are a lot of fun and you will get a t-shirt that we are making to go with our team name.) To sign up, you go to cff.org and on the right hand side there is a button that says Great Strides. You click on that and you can type in my name (Christine Soderborg). It will find me and where I am walking. Click on my name and it will bring up my Great Strides homepage and at the top it says "Join My Team". So that will sign you up with my team.

Another option is to donate. If you can't walk with us on May 21st then you can donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. And you can donate as much or as little as you want.
Also, my mother-in-law and I are in the process of getting our Etsy shop up and running so you can buy cute accessories and part of the purchase will go to the foundation.

Also, I would really appreciate anyone who decides to walk with us to spread the word to your friends and family.

Thank you for your time and let's make CF stand for cure found! =)

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!! Great Strides Walk!

Here is all the information for the Great Strides Walk! Hope to see you there! =)

Get Ready…

Get Set…

Go Great Strides!!!

Make sure your sneakers are all tuned up and ready to go for the GREAT STRIDES walk THIS SATURDAY, MAY 15th at Washington Square (451 S. State St.)! As you collect all your last minute donations and get your friends and neighbors excited for the walk, we wanted to make sure you are aware of a few details, as this in a new location for us this year.

v Parking: you may park on the street in any of the metered stalls around Washington Square and the library. All parking meters are free on the weekend. You may also take Traxx and get off right there at the library. Washington Square is right next door!

v Create your space: bring your own blankets, camp chairs or pop up tents to claim your spot at the walk site. Unfortunately we do not have picnic tables at this location, so bring something to sit on. There are lots of trees and plenty of shade.

v Animals: please be considerate of others and do not bring your “furry friends” to the walk. With there being over 500 people expected this year, we want to make sure everyone is comfortable and that CFF is free and clear of any liability issues.

v Registration: begins at 9:00am. Only Team Leaders and unregistered walkers need to check in at Registration! Team Leaders should arrive promptly at 9:00am to obtain the blue bracelets to hand out to their walkers. Please gather your team together, take roll and let us know who is there that is pre-registered. For those who are not registered, you must fill out a walker brochure, sign the waiver and check in at the registration table. (Again, if you are pre-registered online and have signed a waiver, you only need to check in with your Team Leader.) If you are turning in money, put it in a Great Strides brochure, fill out the brochure completely with your name/address/team name/etc. and give it to your Team Leader to turn in to the Registration table.

v T-shirts: Great Strides t-shirts will be given to anyone who raises $100 or more! Sizes are on a first come, first serve basis. (Team Leaders will be given a coupon for each walker who gets a shirt. Walkers may take the coupon to the t-shirt table to redeem your shirt.)

v Walk Route – the walk is a little less than a 5k (about 2.8 miles). We encourage you to bring your strollers and wagons for your little ones who may get tired along the way. We will provide a Sag Wagon just in case something happens and you can’t quite make it. (See attached map below.)

v While walking, be sure to obey traffic laws! We need all walkers to follow the crosswalk signs and stop lights. Be aware that your group may get separated at a stop light along the way. Its ok, you’ll likely catch up with them down the road.

v CF Awareness Signs: something we’ve never done before is to encourage you to bring posters/banners to carry as you walk. This is a great opportunity to let people know who we are and why we’re walking. Take a bright colored poster board, decorate it with glitter and markers, write encouraging phrases or your team name and display for all to see! Don’t forget a handle (paint stir-stick or dowells work well) and take turns among your team carrying it.

v Runners: a few people have asked about running the route. You are more than welcome to do so. Again, please be aware of the stop lights and traffic laws. We will not be timing you and there’s no prize for 1st place. Remember – safety first! J

v Rest Stop: there will be a Rest Stop at 348 E. South Temple with water and treats. Be aware that there is not a bathroom at this location. Please “go” before you start the walk or you may be begging a business along the way to let you use their facilities!

v Germ Control: there will be hand sanitizer and hand washing station in a few places at the walk site. Please be aware of others and help to avoid the spread of germs.

v Pink bracelets will be provided at the Registration table for those who have CF to wear. We don’t want you to feel singled out, but we do want you to be safe and able to easily maintain the “3ft Rule” by not come in close contact with other people with CF.

v B. cepacia Policy: Because of risks to people with cystic fibrosis (CF), individuals with a confirmed positive sputum culture for Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia) complex shall not attend this event. This is because B. cepacia can be passed between individuals who have CF through close proximity. B. cepacia infection in a person with CF can cause serious respiratory illness and, in some patients, may lead to death. Despite this policy, there might still be some individuals with B. cepacia in attendance. B. cepacia is not a risk for otherwise healthy individuals. For alternative ways to participate and for information about this policy, please contact the CF Foundation at (800) FIGHT-CF or visit www.cff.org. Consult your CF care center physician with medical questions.

v After the walk, please stay to enjoy some delicious food from Chick-fil-a, live music and entertainment from local performers and a Lucky Chance Drawing! We have some really great prizes so be sure to bring your wallets. If you would like to contribute a prize, you can drop it off at the CF office this week or bring it with you to the walk! J

If you have any other questions, please call the office (801) 281-1886. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

March Madness!

This month has been absolutely crazy! School, work, Adam, family and friends have been keeping me busy! At the beginning of March, I went to a team leader meeting for the Great Strides walk coming up in May! (Don't forget to sign up for the walk!) I will have more details about the meeting on my other blog, so check that out too! We will hopefully be doing some fundraising stuff soon! More info to come! =)
Work has just been absolutely insane for the most part. Every time I am at work it seems like we have a million deliveries and people going home! It takes so much out of my sometimes! And school hasn't been too bad but sometimes doing both work and school becomes overwhelming. I have spent this month wanting to sleep and relax. I haven't felt like doing too much. Hopefully spring break will bring some R&R.
Also, I have been trying to do my internship but that has just been a joke. But today, I finally figured out what the problem was and will hopefully be able to start! Yay!
Anyway...so I have been looking for a new place for Adam and I to move into because the place we are in is a little too small for us it seems.Well a couple weeks ago, one of our friends from church approached Adam and said we should try and move into the place next to them. They live in a triplex type deal. So we went to look at it and fell in love with it. We filled out an application and are still waiting for the people to give us an exact answer. They have called and asked us questions about whether we would be able to afford it and if we had given our 30 day notice to our current landlord. We are hoping to hear from them today! *Fingers crossed*
Adam and I saw Alice in Wonderland, the day it came out! And we saw it in 3D and it was awesome! I totally loved that movie! I loved that they took a classic and added to the story. Not just redoing it! Yay!
Adam has a doctors appt at the end of this month! I am nervous to see how is PFTs are! Hopefully they are still good and hopefully he will be feeling good. They are going to start him on a new medication  called Cayston that he will do through a nebulizer!  He does a medication called Tobi and he does it every other month so this medication will be every off month of Tobi. Hopefully it will help some! We are trying very hard to keep him out of the hospital! And so far it has worked! Yay!! He hasn't been in since October!! I am so proud of him for working so hard!
Other than that nothing else is going on. Hope everyone has a great St. Patty's Day!! =)

Nothing like summertime!

Can I just say how much I love the summer!?!?! Well if your answer was no, I'm sorry, but I love the summer!! It is nice to not have classes for a couple months! I am still waiting on some of my grades but the ones I have gotten are great! I am very pleased with them!

Anyway...so far this summer I have been working a couple days a week as usual! Our floor has been super slow! It is not normal for us! We usually are slow for a day or two and then fill the rooms right back out. So I got called off today! It was pretty nice!

I've also been spending a lot of time with Tanya. It has be great! :) She took me for a visit to the Salt Lake Temple. I have only been once for Christmas lights but never really explored too much or had a reason to visit. But as of lately, I have been doing some learning and research on the LDS religion. More to come on that later. :) I am glad that Tanya has been such a great friend and has been very helpful on my journey. In June, we are planning on visiting the Oquirrh Mountain Temple! I can't wait.

This is us and Ella at the temple! Ella is the little girl that Tanya nannies. She is such a cutie and we had a blast!

Also, Adam and I got
back together! :) Kind of a crazy story but it's great and we work so well together. He is wonderful and I am so glad to have him in my life. He has been a big inspiration to me! I have been spending a lot of time with him at the hospital, which is pretty fun! Now he just needs to get better and break out of there! :)

This past weekend was pretty fun as well. On Saturday, I walked in the Cystic Fibrosis walk. If you don't know what cystic fibrosis is, you should check out this website...
http://www.cff.org/
This is what I work with at the hospital. The walk was held at Wheeler Farm in Salt Lake. I had never been there before and I have to say that it is a fun place. It was also a very beautiful day! I was so happy with the turn out of people and the people who I work with that came to support CF. It was awesome! :)

After the walk, I went to see Adam and hung out with him for a bit. Then, I went to Adam's sister in law's baby shower! That was a lot of fun! His mom did a great job putting it together! So many fun games and food!

Then, I met up with Kristina, she is another good friend of mine and we had dinner to catch up some! Overall, it was an great and fulfilling day!

Well I think that is it for now! Have a great week everyone!
