I called my dad today and talked to him for a little bit. As some of you know my dad and I are recently starting to develop a relationship. When I was younger I'd only see him once or twice a year and it wasn't always fun for me to be with him. And when I moved to Utah those visits were considerably less. In fact, I don't think he ever came to visit here but I'd see him when I'd go back to PA with my mom. A couple of summers ago my dad actually came out here and I had to meet him all by myself and it wasn't bad at all. He told me that he wanted to get to know me better and continue a relationship with me. Well, later that summer I was in PA and he wanted to spend a day with me and I was kind of nervous. I had never spent a day alone with my dad. EVER. When I would see him it was for a meal and that was it. The day we spend together was surprisingly wonderful and we had a good time. I got to learn more about my family and where I came from and he also explained some things to me like why he wasn't at my high school graduation. Also that day I got to meet my half brother which neither of us expected. I thought my dad said his brother and Mike (my brother) said he thought my dad meant his stepsister. So we were both a little shocked to actually see the other. He was really easy to get a long with though but it felt rather odd to be called a sister. We decided to keep in touch and get to know each other as well. Anyway, my father, my stepmother, my half brother and my sister in law came to my wedding and I was pretty excited to have them there. It was also the first time I met the women of this group and I was nervous about meeting my dads wife. We had lunch the day before the wedding and my friends Kayla and Marcus were there as well. It was a very pleasant lunch and Joan (my dads wife) and Lisa (my brothers wife) were amazing! I absolutely loved them and glad they were able to be there. Even though my dad hasn't been a big part of my life, I still think he is a wonderful man and he has tried very hard for the past couple years to be there for me. I love him very much and hope to continue growing our relationship. Love you dad. Also, Adam's dad has been a good father figure in my life for the past year and I am very thankful for him. He raised a wonderful son who looks up to him dearly and for this I will be forever grateful.
And another great thing of today, was Adelaide's birthday party! We had a blast hanging out with the family and celebrating. We had fish tacos and hit a pinata. Adelaide was so cute when she was hitting the pinata even though she had her grandpa helping out! But she just laughed and thought it was the greatest thing! =) Although she won't remember it, I will and I am so glad I was a part of it! I love 1st birthdays! I think they are the most amazing things ever! =) I hope one day I will be able to go to my other niece, Madeleine birthday some day! I imagine that would be a blast! One of these years Adam and I will have to go to Dallas and do that!
Hope everyone had a great Father's Day whether you are a father, going to be a father or just hung out with your father for the day!
The past little while has just been nuts in the Soderborg household! We just got back from a three night stay in lovely Ogden! =) I got to spend three days with my cats! I loved every minute of it! It was so nice to spend some quality time with my husband as well! We went up on Tuesday night and most of the time was spent relaxing on Wednesday, finding out that the Utes are going to be a part of the Pac 10 and going to Farr's Ice Cream! It had been a long time since I'd been there and it was so delicious! I love playdough ice cream. And then Thursday we went geocacheing and found one by my high school and tried to find another one at a park but couldn't find it. Then we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner! Man do I love their rolls! Friday, we went over to Adam's cousin Cari's house and went geocacheing with her and her husband. We were somewhat successful! We went back to Cari's house and watch a movie and played with her kitty! It was a great little trip and prepared us for our big trip next week! Wahoo! I am so excited to go on a real vacation!
Last weekend was spent doing baby stuff and mission stuff! First, Adam's cousins wife is having a baby at the beginning of July so my mother in law and fam threw her a baby shower. It was a ton of fun and I even won a prize for playing the Price is Right! After that, Adam and I babysat our neice, Adelaide! We played with her and got to put her to sleep! She is so dang cute! Today is her first birthday! I can't believe how time has flown! I remember going to Karena's baby shower and seeing Adelaide for the first time. We are celebrating her birthday tomorrow! Happy 1st birthday Adelaide! =) Sunday was Adam's other cousin's (Adam has a lot of cousins. Ha!) farewell so we drove to Ogden with the fam and listened to her and her dad talk. It was so wonderful and I am so excited for Sam! There was a little party after and they always have good food! Sam we will miss you! You will rock Germany's socks off!
Oh I also started temple prep classes. I have only done one so far but it has almost been a year since my baptism! Crazy! I can't believe it. I can't wait to be able to go through the temple and do other ordinances besides baptisms, which I enjoy. Adam and I then plan on being sealed November 6th just to keep our anniversary the same!
We've also done some geocacheing in Big Cottonwood Canyon, celebrated birthdays, hung out with the soon to be Fortuna's, went swimming with Kris, swimming with the neighbors, etc.
I am excited to see what this summer holds. Hopefully it will include warmer weather and not a whole lot more rain! I hope it has lots of adventures and friends! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer as well!
