Uncle Adam

One of my favorite things about my husband is that he is extremely good with kids. In fact, he gets pretty sad when a kid doesn't like him. It is probably the cutest thing ever! He is the best uncle besides the uncles I have! Oh and Afton doesn't have CF!! Wahoo! So Adam pretty much booked it up to Drew and Karena's to see her! It was a happy day! The larger picture was him holding her for the first time! I was surprised when he actually let me hold her! He is smitten with her! He is smitten with all of his nieces.

Date night!

Since our schedules have been so crazy and opposite lately, we have started doing a date night every Friday night or Thursday. Each week, one of us decides what we are doing that night and then we are on our way. We have done some fun stuff and it is nice to spend some time together because for a while it felt like we weren't doing anything but sitting around the house and watching TV. I can't really remember what we did the first couple times.

Anyway...last week was my choice and we went to see the Christmas lights at the temple! We ate dinner at the Nauvoo Cafe! We had to wait in line for a while but it was worth it!! I just love looking at Christmas lights! Then we went and saw Sherlock Holmes. It was a pretty good movie!

This week, it was Adam's turn! He was so excited because we were going to a Jazz game. He tried hard to keep it a secret but when he came downstairs in his Jazz jersey, I was able to figure it out! We went to dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen. We had a California Club pizza which I didn't get a picture of because we were so hungry that we almost inhaled it. The food was good but our waiter wasn't the greatest! Then, we walked around the Gateway mall for a little bit. Apparently the malls are still kind of crazy but I am glad we walked around! We ended up running into my friend, Hallie and her FIANCE, Casey! (They recently got engaged on Christmas!) Anyway...the game was a blast even though I was having a little bit of conflict. You see, the game was again the Sixers and I am originally from Pennsylvania. I liked the Sixers growing up and I still have a little place for them in my heart. Haha. But I am glad the Jazz won! It was a good game!

So I think on Fridays I am going to start posting what we do for date night and hopefully give others out there ideas of what they can do too! =) Hope everyone has a great new year!

December Madness

This month has been super crazy and I haven't felt much like blogging. But I want to catch up on the things that have been occurring.

We decided to do a fundraiser earlier this month and had to quickly get it put together. My friend Grace has put most of it together. She even made a website and everything! If you want to visit it you can go here to view it.
The website gives a lot of details about why we are doing this. We made a bunch of fun goodies and had a bunch of donations from other people but while we were planning this a sad event happened. My friend Spencer died due to some complications with CF. He fought a long time and did so well. He just couldn't do it anymore and now he is breathing easy. Here is his obituary. This was devastating news but we proceeded with our fundraiser and still made it to his viewing and funeral. It was a weekend full of mixed emotions. We were so happy to see how much our friends and family support us and our decision to have a baby and it was sad and painful to let go of a dear friend.

Anyway...we ended up making almost half of our goal. We want to raise about $3,000 for the genetic testing we have to do. If we make more than that we will donate it to the CF Foundation. I can't express how much everyone helping out means to me. It has just been incredible having the response we've had. It makes me so happy. I feel like our dream is in reach!

Also, school is over for the semester and that was keeping me busy too. Next semester will be my last semester of college! Woot woot! =) I am so excited! I will be doing an internship at the hospital I currently work in on the psychiatric unit. It is going to be a crazy semester because along with work four, ten hour shifts I will also be working my current job three times a week for twelve hours! So that is everyday! Let's hope I survive!

Now for my hubby, he's been working at ARUP for the past three months and so far he has been liking it. It has been really good for our little family! He is working night shifts and sleeps all day so we don't see each other as much as we used to. But I am glad that he has a job and is liking it.

His health has been pretty good since he got out of the hospital in October but lately he has been having chest pain. We saw the doctor and she was convinced it was muscle related. So we dodged having to be admitted to the hospital over the holidays. We have to go back though to make sure that is all it was.

That's all for now! I will try and be better about updating things throughout the IVF process and all that good jazz. Hope everyone has a fabulous holiday!! =)

More produce from our garden!

Our tomatoes finally started to turn red
We picked some this evening and I am so excited to try them!
We also got another cucumber.
I never thought it would be this much fun to grow our own food.
Here are some pictures:

Yay for vegetables!
Our other vegetables that we planted:
carrots
pumpkins (which are doing really well. I think we have 8 or so pumpkins starting)
beans
lettuce
squashes of all kinds
onions
strawberries

I had planted some flowers as well but I think our garden people tilled without knowing. I was a little upset when I came home and found out what had happened. There were some that were starting to bud but I don't think they survived and I am not sure if any will come up. I guess I will have to plant some more soon.

Anyway...Adam started his new job yesterday! For the first two days he was in orientation and now he will start training for a month or so. We'll find out if he actually likes the job tomorrow. *crossing my fingers*

Also, my sister-in-law and niece are going to be in town later tonight and I can't wait to see them tomorrow! They are going to be here for a while and later this month we are going to Mirror Lake as a family. My brother-in-law will also be joining us then.

August is going to be a super busy month!
There will be weddings, births, family, friends and dun dun dun....school!

Some very good news!!

I have two pieces of good news!! =)

First piece.
Remember this post?: New Job

ADAM GOT THE JOB!!!
I am so proud of him! He wanted this job so bad and he worked so hard to get it.
I was a little worried because he hadn't heard back from them in a few weeks. Adam even called last week to see what was going on.
They called yesterday and said they hadn't heard back from his references. So Adam gave him different numbers to contact them. He went to work today and talked to his boss to see if he had talked to them. Right after that meeting, Adam got a phone call and it was ARUP. They offered him the job!
We are super excited and I think there will be some positive changes in the Soderborg household.
Woot woot!

Second piece.
Remember this post? Wonderful News

Well this was about my twin!

She is prego!
I think it is ok to tell you now that she has told the blogging and facebook world!
I knew it before she even told me! Haha. She text me and said that we should hang out and she needed to see me. It seemed normal at first but something felt different. Then two days before we were supposed to hang out, she sent me a picture of an ultrasound!
I am super excited for her and her hubby! It is amazing and will be totally weird seeing one of my best friends prego. =)

New Job

Adam had recently decided that he needs a new job and I agree with him. His current place of work is not a good environment for him. Anyway...our neighbor, Spencer told him to apply at ARUP (which is a laboratory that does with all the specimens that come from hospitals and such). We also have a lady in our ward that is a manager up there so she put in a good word for Adam. He applied to a bunch of jobs and this morning he finally heard back! They wanted to do a phone interview at 3:30. He came home and was so excited, I had to tell him to relax many times. Haha. They called around 3:45 and it sounded like things were going well. Adam was shaking and I had to tell him to breathe and slow down. At the end, I saw a big smile come across his face and he was doing a little happy dance. He got a second interview which he will have tomorrow. This will mean a lot to our family and I am hoping that he gets it. =)

Day 17 of CF info

Adam did some PFT's today and this time they went up a little!! Wahoo! That makes me feel so much better with him going into surgery tomorrow. His ENT is going to call me tomorrow after his surgery! I thought that that was very nice of him since I will be working. I would also appreciate prayers being sent Adam's way! I am sure it will go well as usual. I am just glad that we are almost out of here. I think we are both getting kind of antsy. I will update tomorrow about his surgery!

The common cold to most is not a big deal. A cold to someone with CF could make for a long stint in the hospital. Hopefully we are able to get our lung functions back to where they were before the cold, but with CF there are no guarantees! If you are sick and know someone with CF, stay away until you are better.

How frustrating! (Day 15 and 16)

Being a CF wife is still pretty new to me but I am learning how extremely frustrating it is. Adam had his week 1 PFT's today and they stayed the same! I mean they didn't go up and they didn't go down. I just thought it was weird for them to stay exactly the same. He also had a meeting with his ENT to set up a day for sinus surgery. So he will be having surgery on Wednesday morning. This won't give him a lot of room to improve on his PFT's because they usually go easy on him after surgery. I hope that he will be able to go up on his final PFT's not leave at worse than what he was at a couple months ago. Last time this happened the docs didn't make him stay in the hospital. Although the docs really wanted him to stay, he talked them into letting him go and coming back in the weeks following to do more PFT's to see that surgery held him back from going up.

I guess he will do PFT's again before surgery just to see if they can improve in the next day. I am not sure if they will but I am beginning to learn to not expect anything with this disease. Oh man. I can't even imagine how frustrating this is for Adam and others that have it. I hate to watch him work so hard and not have any results.

Anyway..sorry that was my little rant for the evening.

Here is my fact for the past two days...

What is Burkholderia cepacia complex? (Burk-HOLD-er-ia Sa-PAY-shah)
Burkholderia cepacia complex (B. cepacia) consists of several species of bacteria that are found in the natural environment. Some of these species threaten the health of people with cystic fibrosis (CF).
It is important to note that — in general — the species that grow in the lungs of people with CF differ from most of those found in the natural environment. However, all species of B. cepacia have been recovered from the sputum of people with CF. These bacteria were only first reported in people with CF in the 1970s.
B. cepacia bacteria are resistant to many antibiotics, which makes them difficult to treat once they infect the lungs. However, some species may be successfully treated with combinations of antibiotics.
Standard infection control practices reduce the risk of infection. B. cepacia poses very little medical risks to healthy people. However, some people who have a serious illness (e.g., cancer, AIDS) may be at risk of an infection with this germ.

Easter!!

Easter comments
Happy Easter yesterday!! I hope everyone
had a wonderful day!
The whole entire Easter weekend was
amazing for me! Here is a little run down.

Friday involved this:

Breakfast with Emily, Amy, and Dominic. It was part of Emipalooza (this is a series of things Emily does for her birthday so if you can't make it to one then it is likely you can make it to something). We went to the Park Cafe and it was delicious!

Then I hung out with my P.I.C. That was fun as usual! =)

Saturday looked like this:

This is what happens when your parents tell a story of how this happened to another child a few nights before and with the exact color of dye! It was funny!

We colored Easter eggs with our neighbors! It was a lot of fun! They were really creative with their eggs. After that we hid eggs in the backyard for the kids to find and then had an egg roll! That was definitely a good day!
Later that night, Adam and I went to Clinton and saw our cousin's Cari and Paul. Cari was having a graduation party! There was good food, good people, and good games! We had a blast. We even made some new friends! Other cousins were there as well!

Sunday was Easter! It went like this:

Church

Nap

Adam's parents house for dinner

then,

Geocacheing!
We went with Adam's brother, Curtis. It was awesome and a little chilly! We did find both of the geocaches we were looking for!

Then, we went back to the house and Adam was teaching me how to play the piano. I've always wanted to learn and it is pretty fun so far. I hope to learn more. =)
